My fave podcasts for creatives working from home

As the past two years have whizzed by with lockdowns 1-6 for us in Melbourne, I’ve been listening to a lot more podcasts – mostly to block out the rest of the noise at home whilst managing kids! I’ve always been such a fan, but with a mountain of choice out there on literally almost ANY topic I thought it would be fun to share my go-to podcasts for creatives!

As a freelance graphic designer and a working from home Mum who runs her own small business 🤘 Here are my top fave podcasts for creatives working from home

Soul Traders – Podcast for Creatives

Soul Traders - Top 8 Podcasts for Creatives - Crystal Oliver - Designer Melbourne

What’s it all about?

Soul Traders is a weekly podcast for creatives and freelancers who want to build an intentional business in alignment with their life and their values.

My review:

My absolute fave! When I found this gem I couldn’t stop listening – everything resonated with my journey. I love the banter between the hosts Amy Snoekstra and Bo Wong – they compliment each other so well. There are so many nuggets in each episode that have helped me truly reflect and grow.

My favourite episode (if I had to choose!) would have to be this one here with Kitiya Palaskas

Routines & Ruts Podcast

Routines & Ruts - Top 8 Podcasts for Creatives - Crystal Oliver - Designer Melbourne

What’s it all about?

The podcast is perfect for creatives. It’s about the days we find flow, and the days we go completely off track. As an extension of Extraordinary Routines, this podcast delves further into the idea that creativity isn’t just something we do, but how we approach our lives.

My review:

I mean who doesn’t love Madeleine Dore? Her voice is so dreamy. I also have her book called “I didn’t do the thing today” on my bedside talbe and I literally CANNOT wait to get my eyeballs on it. Get stuck into Routines & Ruts.

Have a listen to this episode here on resting when there’s still more to do – all the productivity guilt feels. You can thank me later.

The Deep – Podcast by Zoe Marshall

The Deep - Top 8 Podcasts for Creatives - Crystal Oliver - Designer Melbourne

What’s it all about?

From terminal parents to sex workers, extremists and drug addicts, The Deep is a place for thought-provoking conversations that help us explore who we are when no one is looking.

My review:

I literally follow this podcast on the weekly. I binge listened to all of the episodes, and now hang out for the newest one to drop – like a real groupie! This one won’t give you any advice on being a graphic designer, having good routines or how to navigate small businesses but it’s an amazing listen. Every episode is gripping and I absolutely love the way Zoe Marshall navigates so many difficult conversations that we would otherwise find taboo.

Highly recommended! I don’t have a favourite episode – they’re all darn good – listen here

Kat John is an Authenticity Coach and Speaker and she’s on a mission to inspire you to save and channel your fks towards the things that matter to your heart and give zero fks (or less), to the things that don’t.

My review:

As an introverted, over-worrier with imposter syndrome – this poddie is the pep talk I often find myself navigating to when I need it the most. Kat John is also ridiculously hilarious to listen to, as you guessed it, she keeps it real, raw and relatable!
